Susan Manke – Candidate for State Representative 100th district
My family moved to CT when I was 2 years old. We have lived in New Britain, Cromwell, East Hampton, Middletown and Southington, where I lived for many years raising my 2 wonderful children, who given me 5 precious grandchildren. After a divorce, I relocated to Georgia for several years, before returning and settling in Middletown. Since my return, I have been absolutely disappointed by what has been happening to this little state I consider my home.
I attended schools in Cromwell and East Hampton. I’ve taken several college courses, including accounting, but never completed a degree.
I currently work as a floral manager at a grocery store. My work experience is extremely diverse, working everything from fast food, route driver and district manager for a newspaper, banking, auto and homeowners insurance, medical receptionist, student loan officer, bookkeeper, catering coordinator, cook and server among various other positions throughout my life.
Volunteering:
When my children were growing up, I would spend a lot of time helping at their schools, including working the all-night graduation parties the years they graduated.
I was a co-leader for my daughters Brownie and Girl Scout troops.
Also, team mom for the kids’ sports teams, cheerleading, football and softball. As well as serving on parent committees during my daughters’ gymnastics competitive years.
My relaxation comes from spending time playing in a Fife and Drum Corps. I started participating when I was 9 in Cromwell as a fifer. After I aged out of the group, I took several years off while raising my children and returned many years later to another corps to take up my favorite past time again. I try to make as many parades and musters as my schedule currently allows.
